Melanotan II
The best-known peptide for its research into skin pigmentation.
Often called "the tanning peptide," it drew interest for its ability to stimulate the production of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color.
What is it?
A synthetic peptide inspired by the natural hormone α-MSH (melanocyte-stimulating hormone). It signals the skin to produce more melanin.
How does it work?
When skin is exposed to sunlight, the body produces melanin to protect itself from UV radiation. Melanotan II mimics that natural signal, stimulating the cells that make melanin.
